Students Peace Prize Ceremony

The Students Peace Prize (Students Fredspris) has the objective of rewarding the work of remarkable students around the world in their fight for human rights and especially those of the students around the world. This year, the laureate is Elkouria "Rabab" Amidane for her work defending the rights of the West Sahawarians, whose land is ocuppated by Morocco. Not only have the Morocans occupated them but they also are repressing their rights and freedom of speech, and constantly discriminationg and beating them to the point that a lot of Sahawarians have been badly injured or even killed. Rabab herself has been tortured and imprisoned for defending her rights and so have been members of her family and friends. But Rabab has not given up the peaceful fight for what's legitamate to her and her people.

Other previous winners of this prize are ACEU (Asociación Colombiana de Estudiantes Universitarios), who defend the rights of the Colombian students, who are currently under threat of the government of their country, leaded by president Uribe. A lot of students in Colombia have received death threats and some of them have even been murdered by the government, and ACEU has been fighting for their freedom of speech ina peaceful way, making them winners of the prize in 2005.

Former winners are also Antero Benedito da Silva for defending human rights in Timor (invaded by the Indonesians), ZINASU an organization defending human rights in Zimbabwe, Charm Tong and Min Ko Naing for supporting human rights in Burma (officially the Myanmar Republic). To all those spectacular and amazing people - who have suffered the unimaginable - there was a ceremony yesterday night in order to honor them.

This is Rabab, this year's laureate

The representant of ZINASU - from Zimbabwe
Charm Tong (to the right) from Burma

This is Guillermo Baquero Serrano - representant of the ACEU in Colombia - winner in 2005. I am volunteering as his translator because the event is in English and he just speaks Spanish.

This picture is truly an honour for me to post. This is me with the Nobel Peace Price winner, Betty Williams, who won the price in 1976 for defeding peace in Northern Irland.

My friend Thea and me at the ceremony. Thea is such a sweet and kind girl from Vinstra (near Lillehammer - Norway) who has the sweetest Canarian accent in her Spanish!

And well, what else can I say but the fact that it is an honour to be able to participate in such an event, with so many extraodinary people that I get to talk to daily during these four days and get to hear their amazing stories about the struggle for peace in their countries. I couldn't ask for more!

ISFIT 2009

ISFIT (International Student Festival In Trondheim) 2009 is already here! And I am volunteering for a job as a translator for a Peace winner Colombian student named Guillermo Baquero Serrano, member of ACEU (Asociación Colombiana de Estudiantes Universitarios). ACEU won the peace prize for defending peacefully student rights in Colombia, even though a lot of people have been killed, tortured and kidnapped by the government of president Uribe. My job is to accompany Guillermo to several conferences and activities and translate from English to Spanish and opposite. Thanks to this armband I am wearing I can enter any of the activities of ISFIT (concerts, exhibits, etc) and take the buss for free for the next 4 days :-)

I live in a farm...

or somewhere worse because at least animals don't mind the dirtiness!! Do you see now what I have to put up with everyday? I WANT MY OWN APARTMENT!!!!

I want summer... NOW!

I am so sick and tired of this shitty "trøndevær" (Trondheim weather)!! Today on my way home it started to rain little pieces of ice! They are small and hard, so when they reach you they hit really hard and it hurts a bit! Besides it is very sleepery and wet everywhere!

I want summer, sun, holidays, ice-cream, the park, sunbathing and summer clothes right away!! This summer I will most likely be working all summer long at Nidaros - and enjoying the beautiful Norwegian summer, because we also have one! -, but in September I am definetly going to Sevilla! ;-)

New shoes

The shiteous weather in which see ourselves everyday here in Trondheim has made me have to buy rubberboots so my feet won't get wet. There's literally just water everywhere! And I always get home with my feet soaking wet because the water comes through my boots into my socks. So I have bought this pair of rubberboots... 100% waterproof! Maybe a bit ugly but you just have seen the others! All of them in striking yellow or pink colors! So these were the most decent ones I found...

And I saw an offer for summer shoes and I couldn't resist to buy this ones, too! They are hot pink and really comfortable!

Important messages

This is just something silly but I thought it was hillarious! My neighbour Daniel hanged this sign in our kitchen door.

Here's the translation:
"CAUTION!!
If you take a look right above when you go out the outdoor, you will see a stalagmite about a meter. It could fall down whenever now that everything is smelting. So be careful!

                 Stalagmiteobserver"

I just thought it was a bit funny! :-P

Let it snow... maybe it's time to stop though?

 Nidarosdomen

Here I post some more pics of a very snowed Trondheim. There hasn't been so much snow here for quite a few years! I think it's quite cosy though! :-) These pictures were taken sunday 9am on my way to Nidarosdomen. Had you ever seen snowed boats?

Valentine's Day!

To everyone who is in love, has been or will ever be in love. Happy Valentine's Day!

Valentine's dinner

As I have probably said like a thousand times already, we have celebrated Valentine's day on friday instead, with Frank and Elisabeth. We went to this restaurant called "Graffi", which is very good and enjoyed a huge grill, with lots of biff, chicken, ribs, different sauces, corn and a soap cream which was delicious!
I have tried to take a picture with my boy for everybody's sake, cause you have all been asking me to see a picture of us together, but SORRY. He hates beeing taken picture of. So I did my best and this is all I got!

Trying to hide away, Jonny?

Frank in all his glory! :-)

Elisabeth and Jonny
Oh, and let's not forget the almost taxi crash and the Yatzy competition! Yeah, our taxi almost crashed onto a stupid driver who was driving really bad and sleapering through the snow in purpose (maybe because he was drunk, we don't know). Anyway, we managed to take his license number and reported him! And back home - all of us safe - we played team-Yatzy and I got the perfect Yatzy! All sixes at the first try! According to Jonny's calculations the odds for that happening are one of 7.765! Or something like that!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Today I was in town and met my friend Belinda. It has been snowing a lot lately and it was good I had my camera with me so you guys get to see the amount of snow. The first two pictures are from outside my house and the two last ones from the garden. Amazingly it is not so cold because when it snows the sky is very cloudy and the warmth produced by contamination - amogst others - is kept in the atmosphere making the climate a bit warmer that if the sky was uncloudy.

1 month

These are the two gifts I got yesterday for our first month together from Jonny. So romantic! I got 3 red roses! He doesn't like to buy flowers so it makes me feel really special that he did that for me! I made beef in red wine sauce for dinner and we enjoyed the chocolates and some red wine (Catalan Marquès de Monistrol) for dessert. Perfect day!

Ingrid Olava

So yesterday my boyfriend and I went to Ingrid Olava's concert. Ingrid is a known Norwegian artist quite the Norah Jones style. She has some known songs, but most likely just popular in Norway.
I was very surprised about her, she is really talented! She sings and plays the piano as well as in the CD and that's hard to find sometimes amongst artists.
Here's the YouTube link to her most known song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjP-rySg6Xo

And after the concert, we had some party at Blæst with Jonny's friends. Had a lot of fun! But the next morning - that is today - I had to stand up quite early to the guide course at Nidaros cathedral. We were there for 3 hours freezing our asses, but we learnt a lot, too! :-)
