I realise I often mention my job when I am blogging, so I thought I'd make an entry about it. This is the reception of the hotel. As you can see I work at a Best Western - the world's largest hotel chain.
Below, the lobby. Reception makes sure the lobby is always clean, tidy and with the candles litten.
Here I am sitting at the eating room. The hotel is a Bed & Breakfast and that's the only meal we serve. From Monday to Friday we have a breakfast responsible but in the weekends the receptionist serves breakfast and cleans it up afterwards.
It's the night receptionist's duty to prepare the food and make it ready by 7am. So the times I work at night (like I am going to do in two weeks) I have to prepare these trays with cheese, salami, ham and roast beef, amongs others.
As you can see, our job involves more than just picking up the phone and delivering keys. It takes me about two hours to clean the breakfast. Normally, in the weekends we have about 80 guests eating in the morning. You can imagine the amount of dishes, cutlery, glasses, coffee mugs, etc, they use. I am the only one to clean up and I constantly have to stop what I am doing so that I can do the check-outs.
In addition to the breakfast we've got the regular reception duties: check-in and check-out, picking up the phone, recording the bookings on our database, checking the day's arrivals, welcoming guests, making coffee and tea (24 h), vacuuming the floor, taking the dust away, etc. All this is mostly done in the mornings so the days that I work in the evenings there's not much to do except check-ins and that usually goes pretty fast.
So now you know a little bit more about my profession! Do you think you would have liked to do what I do? :-)
