Happy Sant Jordi!

Happy rose-day everyone!
Sant Jordi is a Catalan tradition celebrated every 23rd April. The legend talks about a dragon threatening a village. The village's king then establishes that a random raffle will decide who will be offered in sacrifice to the dragon so that in return it will stop harassing the rest of the villagers. One year, the elected person is the village's princess who is then rescued by a brave knight named Jordi (Catalan for George). Jordi kills the dragon and from the dragon's blood grows a red rose.
That's why every 23rd April boys give girls roses and girls give boys a book. You can also give a rose to your mom to show her how much you love her! Or to your classmates, co-workers, best friends...! The colors of the roses are said to have a meaning too. Red is for love, yellow for friendship.. and so on, though I don't know all the meanings really. Nowadays there are all sorts of colors, even black, blue or multicolored roses! Today it's definetly the best day to be in Barcelona!
